Mark your calendars!

Members of the Board of Directors are making plans for the CDSOA annual meeting on Saturday, November 7, 2009. This will be held at MacGregor's Restaurant & Tavern, overlooking the Susquehanna River near the mouth of Chesapeake Bay. The highlights of the meeting include a dinner cruise aboard the beautiful Riverboat Lantern Queen, which is the largest passenger vessel plying the waters of the upper Chesapeake Bay (and a sternwheeler to boot) and a presentation by Fred Bickum, the captain of the CD28 FeNix, who recently completed a three-year circumnavigation aboard his Cape Dory.

If you've not visited the Chesapeake Bay area, this is a great opportunity to take a little vacation time and see a part of the country that you've not visited. If you have, then you already know what a great sailing area this is. And you'll meet other CDSOA members, put faces with the folks that you may have only conversed with via the message board, make new friends, and see old pals.

If you have time, there is much to see and do around Havre de Grace. There are several museums, including the Concord Point Light & Keeper's House located at the foot of Lafayette Street. Concord Point is the oldest continuously operated lighthouse in the state of Maryland. You'll also find the Havre de Grace Decoy Museum at 215 Giles Street; the Havre de Grace Maritime Museum at 100 Lafayette Street; the Skipjack Martha Lewis at 121 N. Union Avenue; and the Steppingstone Farm Museum at 461 Quaker Bottom Road. CLICK HERE for a "walking map" of Havre de Grace. Take a stroll along the Promenade -- the boardwalk along the Susquehanna. There are parks, art galleries and lots of shops. And of course there's boating, fishing and golf!

If that's not enough, on Saturday and Sunday, November 7th and 8th, visit the Susquehanna Museum of Havre de Grace Lock House at 817 Conesteo Street. for Pirates by the Bay! Visit pirate camps and watch the attacks. Learn the real history of piracy and its connections to Havre de Grace. Admission: $3.00 Adults, $1.00 Children ages 5-12, Children under 5 are free. 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

If you'd like to sail to the annual meeting, contact the Havre de Grace City Yacht Basin (410-939-0015) or the Tidewater Marina (410-939-0950 or 1-800-960-TIDE) for transient berths.

For those arriving on Friday, November 6th, you may enjoy First Fridays on Main Street – “Locals, Legends, and Lore” with scavenger hunts, ghost tours, and things that go bump downtown. Stores and galleries should be open late.
