Cape Dory Rendezvous 2003:
New Bern "Raft-up"
August 1-3

Current as of: 25 July 2003

Rendezvous Info:

Come one and all to New Bern on August 1 - 3, 2003. Well, it's not really a raft-up because it is too darn hot. So sail on down to New Bern, plug in and run the AC.

About 10 slips have been designated for the CDSOA for Friday and Saturday nights. Please call the Sheraton Marina via the hotel at 252-638-3585 and ask for the Marina. The Dockmaster is Bob McNolty. If you are coming by land, you can stay at the Sheraton Hotel, Sheraton Inn (suites) or the Comfort Suites across the street. The Comfort Suites phone number is 252-636-0022.

The fun begins on Friday night on the deck of the Sheraton Hotel. They will have the best music around and the best part is it's FREE. They start the music about 5:30 - 10:30 p.m. or so. They'll have hot dogs and hamburgers available with the bar open on the deck. A seafood buffet with all you can eat is available inside for $21.95 each.

On Saturday you can enjoy walking about town with shopping and maybe even a trip to Tryon Palace or the Firemen's Museum and there are lots of wonderful antique stores to wander through. For information regarding what to see and do in New Bern, see www.visitnewbern.com. Joyce will be available if the ladies want to go as a group to do something or a girls' lunch. I'm sure the guys can find something to tinker with or visit the old fashioned Mitchell's Hardware Store, it's worth a visit.

At 5:30 p.m. we will gather either on the porch of the Sheraton Inn (if it is not booked for a wedding) or on the breakwater dock and the Marina will furnish a couple of umbrellas for shade and some ice for drinks. We can have a meeting if it is needed or we can just have a little cocktail hour with each of us contributing something to snack on.

For dinner we can either have a cookout at the park in the shade on the river and grill something (there is a grocery store by the hotel). Or we can go to a restaurant for dinner. Several choices, but the Gallery Café has a guitarist named Michael Kelsh (www.michaelkelsh.com) from Tarboro that plays wonderful quiet music. At Captain Ratty's we can eat and listen to music in the piano bar. Please contact Joyce and Glen Snader or call 252-637-6560 so they can make reservations for our group.

On Sunday morning, there is a great breakfast buffet at the Sheraton for $7.95. There are a number of churches, of different denominations, that are within walking distance if you so desire.

The weekend will wrap up after breakfast as we head home.

Please email Joyce & Glen Snader your input for dinner on Saturday night. Restaurant or cookout in the park and for a ladies outing on Saturday afternoon. We need numbers!

See you in August.
